Veda's Surgery

Veda came to SNORT on May 2nd after being posted on Craigslist twice, by 2 different people, all within 5 days. The first was her breeder posing as a rescuer, claiming Veda had a prolapsed rectum 4 weeks prior, but she took her for surgery (where they removed 2.5 inches of her rectum), and Veda was fine now. A young woman bought Veda expecting a young healthy frenchie. She soon realized that Veda was not okay, and needed immediate medical attention, which she could not afford. She turned Veda over to SNORT.

In the past 2 months, Veda has had many tests trying to determine why she had constant bloody diarrhea, and why she strains so hard. Every test we ran was coming back normal. Veda's vet, Dr. Miesner, finally referred us to an Internal Medicine specialist, Dr. Brummer. Dr. Brummer found that he was unable to give her a rectal exam or even perform a colonoscopy because of a tiny stricture just inside her anus, basically closing up her rectum. This explains why she strains so hard to have a bowel movement. We then met with a Board Certified Surgeon to find out what Veda's options are. Veda had a barium enema test done this past Friday to see how large the stricture is and if there were any other problems with her colon. The test showed her colon is fine and the stricture in her rectum is so small; it looked pinched and completely closed her rectum. Poor Veda!!!

Today we got a call from Dr. Fingeroth, Veda's surgeon. He feels the stricture is scar tissue that needs to be removed as soon as possible. She will need a "rectal pull-through" surgery and resection. The surgery is estimated at $2662.
